How to use Aircrack-ng 1.2 to crack WPA2 password

In this tutorial, I'm going to share , how to crack a WPA/WPA2 password using Aircrack 1.2 . This tutorial is a continuation from my previous post . I will not go into technical detail on the difference between the technology ,you can read it here. The reason of this tutorial is to widen our understanding on WPA/WPA2 concept and act as a proof of concept on how we can penetrate Wi-fi connection using Aircrack 1.2 program.

Before we go into detail how to do it , need to be noted here ,in order to do packet monitoring and injection, we need to use wireless card that support both of this function .In my case, I'm using TL-WN722N TP Link USB wireless card that come with atheros chipset. By default this card will work great with the default "ath9k" driver that come with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS package.

Proceed to below section to continue with the tutorial.

What you need

1.Working wireless card

2.Aircrack -ng suite installed on your system (check my previous post )

3. Word list dictionary to crack

Steps

1.Turn on the Wireless card to monitor mode (airmon-ng)

2. Discover the existing Wi-fi network (airodump-ng)

3. Sniff and capture packet for the desired Access Point (airodump-ng)

4.Inject packet to clear the ARP cache and wait forclient and AP authentication. (aireplay-ng)

5. Make sure you capture the "EAPOL"protocol

6.(OPTIONAL) Make a new folder and copy the word list dictionary into it .

7.Crack it!!

8.Test it!!!

Steps by steps

1.Turn on the Wireless card to monitor mode

1.1 start interface to monitor the network

shark_attack@Positive-Space:~$ sudo airmon-ng start wlan1

Enable wireless card monitor mode

1.2 (OPTIONAL) changing the MAC address. Normally, I change the MAC address because I can know which Access Point (AP) I'm connected to when I run "airodump-ng" . In the video I change the MAC to 00:11:22:33:44:55 .

2. Discover the existing Wi-fi network (airmon-ng)

You can use this command to monitor all the available network around your area. This information help you to determine the network that you want to crack .Please check below table on details of the information return by "airodump-ng" command . Thanks Aircrack-ng website for the below table.

BSSID	The MAC address of the AP
PWR	Signal strength. Some drivers don't report it
Beacons	Number of beacon frames received. If you don't have a signal strength you can estimate it by the number of beacons: the more beacons, the better the signal quality
Data	Number of data frames received
CH	Channel the AP is operating on
MB	Speed or AP Mode. 11 is pure 802.11b, 54 pure 802.11g. Values between are a mixture
ENC	Encryption: OPN: no encryption, WEP: WEP encryption, WPA: WPA or WPA2 encryption, WEP?: WEP or WPA (don't know yet)
ESSID	The network name. Sometimes hidden

Upper data show the available Access Point

BSSID	The MAC of the AP this client is associated to
STATION	The MAC of the client itself
PWR	Signal strength. Some drivers don't report it
Packets	Number of data frames received
Probes	Network names (ESSIDs) this client has probed

Lower data show the available client

If you change your MAC address and connected to the Access Point, you can detect easily which AP you are connected to . Look for active connection with active user .

3. Sniff and capture packet for the desired Access Point (airodump-ng)

Once you know which Access Point you want to crack, next step is run a command to sniff and capture the network.

shark_attack@Positive-Space:~$ sudo airodump-ng --bssid 9C:D3:6D:1A:1C:54 --channel 9 -w supermanbatman mon0

This command will monitor the AP with MAC address 9C:D3:6D:1A:1C:54 on channel 9 and will capture and write the sniffed information to supermanbatman file .

4..Inject packet to clear the ARP cache and wait for client and AP authentication. (aireplay-ng)

Open a new terminal and run

shark_attack@Positive-Space:~$ sudo aireplay-ng -0 3 -a 9C:D3:6D:1A:1C:54 -c 08:37:3D:EC:9D:D3 --ignore-negative-one mon0

This command will inject 3 fake deauthentication packet to the client. In this example my client is the one that having 08:37:3D:EC:9D:D3 MAC address . "ignore-negative-one" is a miscellaneous command to ignore the mismatch if the interface's channel can't be determined.

Once the packet is injected, the active client connection will be disconnected from the AP. Most of today computer will auto connect the AP because of the client system password saving function . After you done with the injection,let the packet capturing run for a while. This is important so that you capture the AP authentication information that it send to the client .How long you need to wait ?? The rule of thumb that I use, you need to monitor the active packet transmission between the client and the AP . An active connection mean that the client user is actively using the connection. This mean that he has successfully connected to the AP.

5. Make sure you capture the "EAPOL"protocol

Check the captured data with Wireshark for "EAP" protocol. "EAP" is stand for Extensible Authentication Protocol "EAP" only defines message formats. Protocol that uses EAP defines a way to encapsulate EAP messages within that protocol messages within that protocol messages. "EAPOL" stand for Extensible Autehntication Protocol Over LAN .Please read more here . Make sure you have this information to proceed to next step.

6. (OPTIONAL)Make a new folder and copy the word list dictionary into it .

In the video that I made, I compile everything in one folder for the sake of tutorial. If you know where is the location you stored the dictionary, you can straight away type in the terminal . For those who don't have any word dictionary, you can download it here .

7.Crack it!!

Once you have all the necessary requirement, here is the part where you will crack the file! .

the cracking result will depend on your Word list dictionary and your system processor speed. If you have a massive collection of word dictionary, you will increase the probability to get it crack . If you are lucky, you able to get the password crack within few minutes and can go up on to few hours/days or else your system will just return "No Key Found".

8.Test it!!!

The last and final step is test the new password with the AP!! :-)

How to Configure Sudoer in Ubuntu 12.04

Currently on my system I'm running on Ubuntu 12.04 codename (Precise Pangolin) those who don't know about Ubuntu can find it out here . The reason why I'm using Ubuntu is because of its agility and flexibility to move things round. Most importantly it is open source.What it mean to be open source is that you can use it as how you want it to be .You can do what ever with the source code plus with all the free software you can download on their Software centre. I love the idea of "sharing is caring" :-) .

   In this post, I'll be sharing on the most important thing you need to do after finish installing Ubuntu that is adding the "sudoer" . what is "sudoer" you might ask. Well since Ubuntu is running on linux kernel, They have a different bit of architecture as compared to Windows. Ubuntu is running on a monolithic kernel .In short it mean that the "operating system is working on kernel space running on super user mode". I'll not be going to explain it in detail this time perhaps if there is request some other time.

To cut the long story short, I give the analogy of Sudoer in Linux as below :

   Imagine you own a big house. You don't want anybody to do anything to your house without your permission.You have the absolute control of your place . You have 3 son each of your son have different interest and need. Your first son like to play with music, the second one love to draw and the third one love to clean the house. Each of your son is good in what they do and they have different need in respect to their passion. The first son want to have guitar,organ,drum etc. while second son want to have chalk,crayon,paint brush etc . Every time they need something or want to get approval to do some change in the house, they will ask you to do it for them.Well some might say "thats alright" but just imagine they will do that forever and ever!!!!.

   The best thing to do as a father in my opinion is that you give them their responsibility and let them manage what they do best . Isn't this a great idea?? That is how the sudoer work in Linux. In the example above the father,son and house each represent a component in Linux .

Father=Root(or known as administrator in window)
House=Ubuntu/Linux distro
Son=sudoer (S.U = Super User ;DO =do )

   In a nutshell,Sudoer is the one who have authority to change or do something in the system with the permission of Root. Root will be able to keep track on what is done by the sudoer. This help especially when there is something bad happen to your system and before it took you 2 days to know what is wrong with the system,you can check who are the one doing it.

There are advantages and disadvantages in running the sudoer but it helps and motivate you to explore more linux without afraid of jeopardizing the system. :-)

Steps to configure "sudoer"

1. Log in as root
2. Open termimal, run below command

$sudo adduser shark_attack(your sudo user)
$sudo /usr/sbin/visudo

//edit the sudo file as below using vi or other text editor
//(This is needed to grant the user as sudo privillage )

# User privilege specification
root ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL
shark_attack ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL

press CTRL-X and Y to exit vi //

To know whether your sudoer is rightly configured, try to login using normal user account and try to run any sudo command. For more information and guideline please visit this site

Use Any Dongle On Your Micromax Funbook

Micromax Funbook is among the cheapest tablet available in the market. It is available @ Rs.6499 only. It also comes with a tata photon plus dongle purchase coupon via which you can get tata photon plus dongle with connection at cost of only Rs.500.

But if you want to try any other dongle on your Micromax Funbook then what to do??? Okay, I am gonna tell you what to do. I have tested Idea Net Setter on my Micromax Funbook and it is working fine.
So you can use any dongle (aircel, airtel, MTS, BSNL,etc) on your Micromax Funbook. But I am not giving you 100% guarantee that it will work. Just follow the steps given below:
Steps to follow:-

1) Connect the Mini 2 USB connector to the port on your funbook

2) Connect the other end of the Mini 2 USB connector with the USB dongle.

Ideally, when you plug in the USB dongle , the connection is established automatically.

If not, proceed with step 3.

3) Go to Menu>>Settings>>Wireless & Network>>More.

4) Select Mobile Networks and then check Data Enabled option and select the Access Point Names to select from available list. If your connections APN is not available then create one for your connection.

Now try to connect manually and thats it.

If you are still facing problem connecting your dongle then try any Huawei e1732 data card. I am using Idea Net Setter Huawei e1732 dongle. I have no problem till date. It gets connected automatically whenever I plug in to my Funbook.

How to use Vox for basic system function,remote VNC Raspberry Pi login and others ( Vox part 2 script)

This post show How to use Vox for controlling system basic function using voice recognition .It is a continuity from my previous post .At this moment, The program consist of 3 main script.There will be a more function added to this program in the future .

Script

1.vox (main script)

2.vrec (recording script. will use more for future development)

3.vsort ( return text integrate with local system script )

Script details

1.Vox script(main script)

1.1.Variable declaration and changing directory working directory to ~/vox-master .

If you use different language than english, you need to change "en-us" in the above script..Check here for language reference. Notice the "&maxresults=10" line . What this line do is, it request for maximum 10 results from Google server.

1.2. Calling the recording program.

./vrec

Currently, the program can only record for 3 seconds .You can remove this line and just use " rec -r 16000 -b 16 voice.flac trim 0 3 " instead .The recorded file will be save as "voice.flac"

1.3 "voice.flac" will then be send over to Google voice search engine and it will feedback a text message to our system . The retrieve result from Google is then pipe into a file call "result" .I use "result" information to custom my "vsort"file .

1.4 Sorting out the return result and send it over to "vsort" script. After vsort file being execute, The program will wait for 5 second delay before executing .

2 Vrec script .

At this moment, Vrec only consist of one line .I'll be using this file more in the future development.

3.Vsort script

What this script does is it associate the word that has been retrieve from Google server and use it to execute a command that is associated with your system. You need to make sure what kind of word is use and what command you want to execute . You need to edit this file to make it work with your system.

In the existing script ,

How to write Raspbian/image file to SD card on Ubuntu 12.04 (easy way)

I received my Raspberry Pi a few days ago but only today I'm able to play around with it. Since I purchased Raspberry Pi without the SD card, the first thing I need to do to make it running is writing the Operating System (OS) Image to my existing SD card . I'll be using my Verbatim 16Gb SD Card class 4 for this job . For complete list of Raspberry Pi compatible card, you can visit here.

In this post, I'm going to share how to write Raspbian OS to SD card. This post can be use as guideline to write any image file to SD or USB drive. Raspberry Pi only can work with 32 FAT file system .Make sure you reformat your card to 32 FAT filesystem. Please refer my previous post on how to do this.

The idea behind this post is using a software call 'imagewriter' . I choose to use this software because it is easier and safer especially to those who are new with Ubuntu.Other method that can be use is by using dd command. Extra precaution is needed if you use the command, if you wrongly type it in ,it can corrupt the whole usb/sd drive . For this reason some people call the dd command as 'Destroyer of disk' .I have experienced doing that and it took me sometime to get the drive back .

Steps

1. Download latest Raspbian zip file here

2.Go to the folder you download the file and check sha1sum message digest for the file . Confirm the file name similar with the one on Raspberry download page

shark_attack@Positive-Space:~$ sha1sum 2013-09-25-wheezy-raspbian.zip | grep 99e6b5e6b8cfbf66e34437a74022fcf9744ccb1d

3.Unzip the file

shark_attack@Positive-Space:~$unzip 2013-09-25-wheezy-raspbian.zip

4. Download 'imagewriter ' software from Ubuntu software centre

Install imagewriter program

5. Make sure your SD card is connected. Run the 'imagewriter' program . Choose from location (Location where you store the file ) to location that you want to write the image (sdcard/usb drive)

Note : you can also do this on the terminal by typing

dd if=/home/shark_attack/Downloads/2013-09-25-wheezy-raspbian.img of=/dev/sdb

make sure you know which one is your sd/usb drive by running

df -h

6. Make sure it is successfully written.

7. Check the written file on your drive and safely remove it from your system .

8 .Run it with your Raspberry Pi. Enjoy!!.
