Samsung Emerged As 2012's Top Cellphone Brand

Nokia's dominance in cellphone market has finally come to an end as South Korean based Samsung is set to take the top position for the first time on a yearly basis. According to the report published by market research firm IHS, 29% of all cellphones that were shipped this year were produced by Samsung. Finnish-based Nokia topped the chart in cellphone brand for a long period of 14 years. Main reason behind Samsung's success and Nokia's fall is the new trend of smartphones.

Samsung is also leading in the smartphone market. Android run Samsung smartphones has extended a strong lead over its main rival Apple in the smartphone market as this year market gap between them has increased to a large extent. Samsung and Apple together acounted for 50% of shipments of all smartphones in 2012 which was 39% last year. Nothing going Nokia's way as its new Microsoft Windows 7-based smartphones are not able to live upto the marks as they fail to create sensation among people. While Samsung Smartphone is benifiting amazingly due to booming trend of Android Apps. Smartphone share of Nokia dropped to 5% from 9% while Blackberry also fell from 11% to 5%.

Overall Samsung dominated the mobile handset market by accounting 29% of worldwide shipments which was 24% last year, followed by Nokia as they show drop in its market share to 24% from last year's 30%. Apple hold the third spot with 10% shipments worldwide for 2012.

It will be interesting to see what kind of strategy Nokia takes in the coming year to claim the top spot once again. Whether Samsung can retain the top spot in cellphone market next year too.

Next is what.
